Best-practice Release Checklist.

You've poured your heart into creating a song, but your work isn't quite finished yet. A successful release strategy is just as important as the music itself. By planning ahead and being intentional, you can give your music the best chance to reach new listeners.

Start Early

Don't wait until the last minute. Upload your music to distribution platforms at least six weeks before the release date. This lead time ensures your song is correctly ingested and gives you enough time to pitch the release to streaming platforms. It also gives you plenty of time to create engaging promotional content like Reels, posts, and videos to build anticipation.

Create a Plan

A clear strategy can reduce a lot of stress. Map out how you'll communicate with your followers about the upcoming release. What story do you want to tell? Look for examples of great rollouts from other artists for inspiration. A great recent example is the collaborative album by Abi Gamboa and Aodhan King, who used a series of authentic collaborative posts to create hype. This isn't the only way, but it shows how a cohesive plan can work.

Get Your Assets in Order

Before the release, make sure all your profiles are ready. Update your profile picture and bio on all platforms. Create an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) to send to radio stations and other outlets.

Remember, a lot of the work begins after the release date. It's easy for the music to feel like old news to you, but to a new listener, it's completely fresh. Continue to share and promote your music on social media and other platforms with the understanding that for some, this will be the first time they're hearing it.
