The Art of Pitching: Tips for Getting Your Music Heard
Each month, we’ll be dropping artist insights to help you navigate the industry and build momentum — and this month, we’re diving into one of the most important skills for any artist: pitching your music.
Whether you're submitting to a playlist, a blog, or a DSP editor, how you present your song can make a huge difference. Here’s how to level up your pitching game:
1. Keep it succinct.
Think POP:
Process – Share a short anecdote about how the song came about. What inspired it?
Other artists – Mention who you sound like or who influenced you. Make it easy to place your music.
Plans for promotion – Give a quick overview of how you’ll be supporting the release (e.g., social posts, live dates, press, etc.).
2. Keep it professional (but still sound like you).
Write like you’re sending an important email to someone you respect. Keep it warm, friendly, and polished — remember, a real person is reading your pitch.
3. Avoid over-spiritualizing.
It’s totally okay if your music has a deep spiritual backstory — that’s powerful. Just remember that not everyone reading your pitch will share the same faith background. Use accessible language that invites everyone in.
4. Don’t overthink it!
There’s no perfect formula. Your job is simply to help someone else care about your song. Be yourself, be clear, and believe in your work.
Your music deserves to be heard. Pitch with confidence.
